Weekly Newsletter for The Freelancers: Here is the latest newsletter of the week starting on 22th July 2019.

Before Google for Jobs, do you remember when you last applied for a job? That was before you decided to go freelancing, right? Back in 2017 Google did some research on the job advertising and recruitment market and decided that it is worth over $200 billion worldwide.

However, on an individual level, they found that there are a lot of inefficiencies in the marketplace and the satisfaction with the job searches is low.

Google decided that it can use artificial intelligence and algorithms to introduce disruptive innovation in the job search market. If you have a search engine optimized website you will realize just how powerful Google is in the area of searches and its depth of knowledge is world leading. This initiative by Google is worth sharing with friends and family if they are still in the job market.

I know that, as a freelancer, your imagination will have made the leap to think: what if Google started matching freelancers with gigs that are available? Now that would be something! Agree?

Don’t Stop Sharing What You Know – Because of Reciprocity Matters

share

Have you ever wondered why the sharing economy is so powerful? I wasn’t too sure about it when I read Virginia Bautista’s article in the Freelancers Union blog and decided that it must be the power of reciprocity.

I also had to look that up on Wikipedia and you can read about it here. There is a lot to be said about the subject, but I think that it is best summed up in this quote:

“True community is based on upon equality,
mutuality, and reciprocity. It affirms the richness of
individual diversity as well as the common human
ties that bind us together.”

– Pauli Murray

It follows, that if you continue to share and help your fellow human beings, you will benefit from the power of reciprocity because they will also help you. This is the social force that makes social media groups so powerful for the common good.

Productivity Tip Of The Week

Do You Know What Your Two Biggest Productivity Killers Are?

This is an interesting article by Amy Sept who is the Managing Editor of the UpWork Blog. It is important because Amy has taken a look at the effectiveness of time management versus being more productive. It is clear that they can be two different things.

When I was writing the eBook: How to Be Self-Employed: A Freelance Work from Home Guide our freelance researcher based in New Zealand found that Amy was right. The most important thing about being productive was doing the most important things first. I have never found this easy to do. This quote is very applicable:

“Plans are nothing; planning is everything.”

– Dwight D. Eisenhower

On re-reading Amy’s article, I notice that she is also in favour of not multi-tasking. This is something that I am guilty of, even though I try to use a priority system. Amy discusses using a Priority Matrix, which I found to be a very interesting idea too. I enjoyed Amy’s article and I am sure that you will too. You can read it by clicking here

Work-Life Balance Tip Of The Week

Do You Know How to Build Your Self Confiden

how-to-build-your-self-confidence

“But, don’t be fooled! Your beliefs are incredibly powerful!” is a sentence in the article How to Start Building Confidence: A Story from A (Formerly) Fearful Guy by Dan Stelter from The Dumb Little Man Blog. This is a very powerful article that goes to the root of self-confidence. When you are the boss of everything as a freelancer, you have to be confident.

Your negative self talk can have a very powerful effect on your life as a freelancer. This is a very appropriate quote to counter negative self-talk:

““Successful people have fear, successful people
have doubts, and successful people have worries.
They just don’t let these feelings stop them.””

– T. Harv Eker

Financial Tip of the Week

Knowledge of Amazon Associates Policies Matters To Freelancers

freelancers-community

It does not matter in which country you live, Amazon Associates will be available to you as a form of income from advertising their goods and services on your blog, website and, possibly, your social media channels. Amazon Associates is operating in Australia now. So what, you may well ask, does this matter to freelancers? It does!

If you have a Facebook Business Page and I would say that most freelancers would, you may be able to advertise their products and services.

However, a word of warning: Amazon Associates policies for different countries vary. Here is the Amazon Associates contact point for Australia: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com.au/
