Training Choices Matter For Freelancers And Career Changers
Training choices need to be smart and focused on jobs at the end of the training. History has shown that this is a critical part of decision making for anyone undertaking training. Here are 5 reasons why:
There is no point in undertaking training to enhance your skills if there is no opportunity to use the skills to benefit yourself or the community.
Competition and the numbers of people undertaking a training course is not a guarantee of a job at the end of the training, but it is a clear indication that others think that there is potential in getting a job at the end of the course.
It is smart to look at the possibility of being self employed at the end of the course and to undertake training in being self employed even if it means enrolling in a separate course. This allows you to prepare yourself for the possibility of being self employed and how to go about it and be empowered to help yourself.
Freelancing is not something to be afraid of as it is a global trend because the internet is empowering millions of people around the world to take control of their own future. In fact, in the United States the people involved in freelancing reached 54 million in 2015. Here is the infographic.
It is not surprising that online training course providers have increased amazingly. One of the largest is Udemy which has over 9,000,000 students, 35,000 + courses and 19,000 instructors. Many of the courses give lifetime access to their enrollees.
You need to do your due diligence when looking at the provider of your training and their reputation. I have looked for you, but check for yourself. Here are 7 reasons to use Udemy as your training resource.
I am undertaking a number of Udemy training courses at the moment because it gives lifetime access and allows me to be updated in the subjects that I am interested in. I have become an affiliate of Udemy because I believe in what they are doing to empower ordinary people to help themselves.
I am a strong believer in being a member of the Freelancer's Union either in the country where you live or in the Freelancer's Union in the United States which is also fighting for the rights of freelancers globally. I am a member of the Freelancer's Union in the United States and the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance in Australia where I live. This is why I think freelancers should be a member of a union.
