Weekly Newsletter for The Freelancers: Here is the latest newsletter of the week starting on 22nd October 2018.
When I worked in banking and was responsible for the work of large teams it was impossible to do the jobs yourself.
It was like being the conductor of an orchestra where you had to make sure that each player contributed harmoniously to achieving the goal of producing fine music that the audience appreciated.
Similarly, more experienced and successful freelancers need to learn this lesson:
Do What You Do Best, and Outsource the Rest - Peter Drucker
Imagine that you were an expert in a particular field of agriculture and you knew that there was a global need for an eBook that describes to the global farming community a better way to produce a better return on a particular harvest.
As an expert with practical knowledge in the area readers will be willing to pay to purchase your eBook.
You may know the market, the need, what has to be done, how to do it and probably could even write it. What do you do? You can look at the global freelancing community to help you.
They can not only help you produce the eBook professionally, but also promote it. You will assume the role of being a conductor of an orchestra of freelancers working as your team to achieve your goal.
How do you go about assuming this role? This is the first step: Read the best-selling Amazon eBook on virtual teams which is called Influencing Virtual Teams which you can look inside the index by clicking here.
“We never know the love of a parent till we become parents ourselves.”– Henry Ward Beecher
Wanting to do something creative to fulfill a vision that you have is no longer something that you should automatically think is a pipe dream and it cannot be done because you do not have the skills.
The millennial generation is probably the most creative generation ever because of the technology that they have available to them to create and change the future. Claudia Gioia has written Fortunately The Largest Workforce In History Is The Most Creative: The Millennials for TheHolmesReport.com which you can read here.
There is access to this vast network of creative individuals through the global freelancing network. The immediate question is how do you tap into this network? Carey Wodehouse has written How to build a team of freelancers for Upwork.com which you can read here.
Over the coming weeks, we are going to look at building a team
of freelancers to participate in a project which we will share with you in
future issues of this newsletter because:
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” - Abraham Lincoln
The accepted wisdom in the past was that if you were a multi-tasker then your productivity would be less. The basis of this idea is that you should focus on one task at a time to get a job done rather than trying to do several jobs together.
On an individual productivity basis, I believe that this may be correct. However, the modern day freelancer is not so much a multi-tasker, but a manager of a team. Antonia Bensusan has written Why you should forget multitasking for Freelancer.com.au which you can read here.
An example of this concept is that you may want to research a topic for an article and ebook, produce an online calculator to embed in the article, hire a writer and information technology specialist while working on a weekly newsletter for your website followers.
All this is doable with the use of freelancing platforms.
In fact, this is happening as I write this newsletter and over the coming weeks, we will share with you how it was done and what the result is. This is all possible by using the freelancing platform Upwork.com and you can read How to Hack Upwork by clicking here.
This has happened because the future of work has changed very quickly to the New Economy which is about innovation and creativity to make you more productive. Ashley Stahl has written Millennials: taking over the internet and the economy for Forbes.com which you can read here.
There is no doubt that work-life balance is a hot topic globally and there is a wide disparity of opinions. If you are not familiar with Reddit this is what it is about here. Two of the issues that appear regularly on Reddit are the issues of work-life balance and housing affordability.
The issues of work-life balance and housing affordability are very much social issues of our time and are increasingly so as the millennial generation come into the child-bearing and family building stage of their life cycle.
Jamie Doward has written Men and women struggle to get on at work and find time for their families for Theguardian.com which you can read here.
For many of this generation, the key to addressing both of these issues is the rise of the freelancing economy. It can help put them in control of their work-life balance and to a certain extent housing affordability by lifting their income.
As with many countries, city-suburban bank representation is changing towards more online services. In Australia, this is happening regularly. Recently I had to visit our local branch and found that it had moved to a shopping center.
While I was asking directions to the bank at an information desk that was promoting a Melbourne University the lady told me the story about her son and daughter in law. She told me that it can be a mistake to gift money to millennial children to help them gain a foothold in the property market.
To make a long story short, her son and daughter in law had split up and she lamented her loss of capital. It would have been far wiser to lend the money to them as a family loan.
The bank branch that I was looking for had shared this wisdom with her. I have now passed it on to you. There would be many situations like this where baby boomer parents are helping their millennial children in this way.
The www.abc.net.au is keeping a full coverage of the drought crisis in Eastern Australia and how you can help which you can read here.
I will maintain the links for the New Economy articles which are skills and job-focused training. You can read one such article by clicking on the link: Training choices matter for freelancers and career changers.
There are now
5,000 skills in 90 categories that the digital economy can offer according to

Articles now on our website that are relevant are listed here:
will be more over the coming months.
One of the realities that millennial families have to face is that managing work-life balance requires that you have to ask for help to get things done. Amazon has been quick to spot this as an opportunity and has introduced Amazon Home Services. You can watch a video about what they do here.
The weekly AWS news video link to acloud.guru is here. They are the leading trainers globally for AWS freelancers.
We have stopped showing the links for new articles as we have discovered that it could be having adverse impacts on the search engine optimization of the website Best Sellers Hourly. We will advise you when new articles are added. They are currently being worked on.
