Social Media Optimization: The Essentials You Need to Know

Social media optimization makes website content better support your social media presence. Your business should have an actively maintained social media such as Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Quora and LinkedIn. That is accomplished through two primary focuses: social media features within the content and social media promotion through links to and from your social media accounts.

Social Media Optimization

The Two Types of SMO

Social Media Features Within the Content - It boils down to linking: you provide a link; the user clicks on that link; the link establishes a virtual customer/business relationship. The best way to do that is to link your website, and all its content, to your social media sites.

Every web page, every post, every update should provide the user an opportunity to know your company better through social media websites. This is social media optimization at work.

Social Media Promotion - Social media promotion means actively networking the business through social media platforms.

Your website content and blog posts on other blogging websites in the same market sector, back linking to your business website.

Your business website promotes through Twitter follows. This type of social media optimization is like leaving pamphlets on potential customers' doors, an aggressive form of online promotion that contributes to your total web presence.

The important distinction is that social media is inbound marketing rather than traditional outbound marketing.

Online Reputation Management

Social media website promotion comes with its risks.

All of your social media websites will be piped in and aggregated into an easy to use interface that gives you a global overview of your online presence. It will help you gauge how well your social media optimization tactics are working and manage the accounts.

Inbound Marketing Assessment

Have you had an assessment of your inbound marketing?

It is important because inbound marketing has been shown to cost up to 50% less than the traditional outbound marketing.

Social Media Marketing Management (SMMM)

SMMM is very time consuming It is smart business to use the best social media management tools. We recommend that you should trial the following the tool we use every day:

Top Apps For Freelancers

By Hannah Mason from Hungry House, the UK's leading online takeaway delivery service for Indian, pizza and Chinese food delivery.

Whilst the advantages of freelancing are many and varied, with the opportunity to set your own work hours, work from home and take on a variety of projects being just some of the benefits; with no boss looking over your shoulder the freelance life does mean that you have to be incredibly strict in regards to time management and efficiency. Luckily these days there's hundreds of online tools available to help you out. I've been a freelance web content writer and online marketing specialist for a while now and have worked my way though many-an-app in an effort to maximise on my productivity levels. Here's my rundown on one of the best out there.

For the freelancer writers out there - be it a blog article, short story or full-blown novel, Manuscript is a great project management tool for your writing. It contains an in-built dictionary and thesaurus along with essential access to google and wikipedia so you can research and plan your writing easily. Users can start from scratch or import work already written from google docs. Then, once completed, you can export your work via email or google docs. For writers who travel or commute a lot and are sick of having notes and work drafts all over the place, Manuscript is a great app for consolidating everything ensuring you don’t lose the latest version of your work. It’s available from the Apple store and you can download it for your ipad, pc as well as mac.Comment on your favorite application here: http://bit.ly/qAUgaZ

Evernote

Evernote is a fantastic tool for amassing and sorting ideas and sources of inspiration as you come across them. A 'note' can be anything from a text document, handwritten ink note, audio memo, webpage or photograph. Notes can be sorted in to folders, annotated, archived, tagged, edited and exported. The service can be used on a number of operating systems including Windows, Mac and Android and it's free or you can opt for a paid premium membership which offers more storage space. Whatever your line of business, Evernote is likely to be a useful tool in some way if only to ensure everything is gathered in one place rather than across a number of different spaces scattered across your computer and smart phone. It's probably the app I use the most and would encourage every freelancer to give it a go. I will review others over the coming weeks.

Small Business Technology Is Not Enough

I think one of main issues for small business operators today is when they want to start to have an internet presence that they start out smart. What I mean by this is that they realize upfront that just having a website or blog and Facebook business page is not enough, there has to be a marketing plan. It is well worth the money to employ a social media contractor to develop the plan and, probably, implement it and manage it. It is like having an accountant.

If you are a small/micro business operator and for financial reasons you have to or want to manage it all yourself you are best to look for a company that has a step by step action plan and all the tools in one place. I spent many thousands of dollars finding this out by hard and costly experience. Keyword focused content pages strategy plus social media options build in is the best solution. Believing that if you build a website or Facebook business page that the customers will come is a false belief.

What do other members think?
